Students in the Introduction to Rapid Prototyping Class are looking at design in a new light with the addition of the Makerbot Digitizer and the 123D Catch Application. Students took ordinary objects that you would find in a normal classroom and turned them into creatures using Autodesk Meshmixer. In Autodesk Meshmixer there is a catalog of parts provided to the user to start their designs. These parts are able to be combined together and scaled to become one part. Once the parts are combined then they can smoothed out and blended to create a seamless transition. Once the designs were completed students then exported their creatures to the 123D Make application where it could be sliced and scaled so that i can be cut out of cardboard using the laser engraver.
